“Created with the intention of keeping money flowing in the region, Currents can only be used at member businesses. Currently, over 300 local businesses accept and use Currents, and director Christopher Hewitt said they are pacing to 1,000 members by next summer. [..] Members can opt to have a portion of their salary from a participating business paid in Currents, to keep the currency flowing. For example, Hewitt has 10 percent of his salary paid this way.”
